The combination of word-for-word scripture and memorable melodies makes memorizing scripture easy!

Mark Altrogge is Senior Pastor of Sovereign Grace Church in Indiana, PA. He and his wife Kristi have five children.

Mark has written numerous worship songs that have been published and recorded by Sovereign Grace Ministries (formerly PDI Ministries), Integrity Music, Glad, Anne Herring, Matthew Ward, and others. His most well-known songs are “I Stand in Awe” and “Forever Grateful”.

“Memorizing Scripture has been one of the most beneficial practices I have done over the years,” Mark says. “I can’t tell you the number of times I have been counseling someone or witnessing to someone and the Holy Spirit has brought a Scripture that I had memorized to mind that was perfect for the situation. And many times when I have been tempted to sin, a Bible verse has come to mind and by God’s grace I have avoided the sin.”

“I began putting Scripture to music many years ago and found that I was able to memorize the Scriptures much more quickly. Then when I had children, I did the same for them and found that they were able to learn the verses fairly easily. That’s what gave me the idea for Hide the Word. Initially, I just wanted to do it for myself and my children, but later decided to try to make Hide the Word available to a wider audience.”
